A Corporation Tax loan spreads the cash cost of a tax bill through repayments to a lender. It does not reduce the tax due, and the business must be able to meet the new debt alongside future liabilities.
How it works
A lender assesses the business and the confirmed tax requirement. Funds may be paid to the business or directly to HMRC, depending on the arrangement. Repayment terms and guarantees vary. Confirm that payment will reach the correct HMRC account in time.
What to consider
- Check the company’s actual payment deadline; larger-company instalment rules can differ from the usual small-company timetable.
- Compare the total cost, fees, security and early repayment terms.
- Forecast the next tax bill as well as the proposed loan payments.
- If the business cannot pay on time, discuss HMRC payment-plan options promptly rather than assuming a commercial loan is the only route.
What to prepare
An up-to-date Corporation Tax calculation, payment reference and deadline, recent trading figures, existing commitments and a cash forecast.
Repeatedly borrowing for tax may indicate that regular reserves or pricing need attention. We can help look at the cause of the shortfall and establish a more sustainable provision for future bills.
