An online business can need cash for stock and advertising well before sales turn into available funds. Ecommerce funding includes arrangements assessed against online revenue, trading data and margins.
How it works
Some providers advance money in return for an agreed share of future sales until a specified total has been repaid. Others offer loans or stock finance. The label “ecommerce finance” does not describe a single contract, so check the legal structure and repayment terms.
What to consider
- Forecast net cash after platform charges, returns, advertising, VAT and finance deductions.
- A fixed fee is a real cost even where no interest rate is quoted.
- Check minimum payments, guarantees, security, early settlement and access to sales data.
- Growth assumptions should allow for slower stock turnover and higher customer acquisition costs.
What to prepare
Platform and payment statements, stock requirements, gross margins, advertising results and a seasonal cash forecast. Be clear whether funds will support proven demand or an untested campaign.
For example, buying stock ahead of a seasonal peak can be sensible only if the expected sales and margins support repayment. Strong turnover on its own is not enough.
